To get out, either go back through the opening or keep running towards the camera and spin/roll into the crate that stands in your way (this is also a way in if, when over the bridge or having grabbed the first Star Medal, running towards the camera and jumping over the fence). You will see the words 1-up appear, which means that you've grabbed it. If you want a 1-up mushroom, run towards the wall and to the right. The one closer to the box has a coin, the other one has nothing. If you want, you can roll/duck-spin the blocks lying on the ground.
